We collaborate with Amsterdam Science Park and start-up facility Innovation Lab Chemistry Amsterdam. We are the driving force behind Chemistry Platform Amsterdam and the scale-up facility Prodock. Port of Amsterdam drives sustainable innovations, technological breakthroughs and intelligent start-ups. The bio-based cluster Amsterdam includes:
Capricorn Venture Partners is an independent European manager of venture capital and equity funds, investing in innovative European companies with technology as competitive advantage. It is based in Leuven, Belgium and licensed by the FSMA (the Financial Services and Markets Authority in Belgium). www.capricorn.be
Arctic Biomaterials Oy is a Finnish company producing high performance biodegradable and bio-based alternatives for demanding technical applications. The materials are produced on our long-fiber-reinforced-thermoplastic (LFRT) line. This proprietary biodegradable long glass fiber compounding technology increases the PLA temperature resistance and mechanical properties to new levels and opens a variety of possible application areas in the field where technical plastics are being used.
The environmental aspect and climate care are deeply embroidered in our company’s DNA. The two main key indicators in a products’ environmental footprint are greenhouse gases (GHGs) and non-renewable energy use. Compared to traditional oil-based technical plastics the amount of GHGs and use of non-renewable energy (per kg of polymer produced) can be drastically reduced. Arctic Biomaterials Oy employees are handpicked professionals from the bioplastic field and this knowledge is available to our customers when developing new recipes and solutions. www.abmcomposite.com
BE-Basic Foundation is a leading international public-private partnership that develops industrial biobased solutions to build a sustainable society. BE-Basic has come a long way in the 10 years of its existence, and has developed a clear idea about the feasibility of biobased solutions. The next stage would be implementing the technology and creating a support base for it in society. Technology is in place to take the next step! www.be-basic.org
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is multipurpose pilot facility for the development, scale-up, demonstration and custom manufacturing of biobased products and processes at a kilogram to multi ton scale. A wide range of state-of-the-art industrial equipment, and the experienced and flexible team of over 40 employees, serve customers from around the world in the field of biomass pretreatment, fermentation, downstream purification, bio-catalysis and explosion proof green chemistry.
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is fully independent and self-sustaining, and has successfully scaled-up more than 130 bio-processes for more than 70 companies in the last three years. Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant has extensive expertise in the production of for example industrial enzymes, specialty carbohydrates, bio-surfactants, organic acids, monomers, solvents, flavors and fragrances, biopolymers, oleo-chemicals and fuels, and this from various biomass feed stocks.
Bio Base Europe Pilot Plant is a European frontrunner in industrial biotechnology, and was therefore selected in 2014 by the European Commission as a demonstrator multi-KET pilot line. We are open to companies (small, intermediate and large) and research institutes from around the world and from different sectors to bring their bio-based innovations from the lab to the market. www.bbeu.org
Biobased Maine is a trade association promoting the sustainable use of renewable biomass from forests, farms, and sea to manufacture the next generation of biobased chemicals, materials, and fuels. NEN coordinates the establishment of international standards and certification schemes in the biobased economy and many other sectors. Using our broad international network, we bring together stakeholders to develop standards which help to reassure that products and services are safe, reliable and of good quality. NEN is leading the CEN Technical Committee 'bio-based products' (CEN/TC 411), which is developing standards supporting the development of the biobased economy. NEN manages the certification schemes Better Biomass and Biobased Content, which enable communication of important characteristics of biobased products.
Bio-based content certification enables transparent and credible communication about the bio-based content of a product, by means of a certificate and label with the percentage bio-based content. This not only involves the bio-based carbon content, but also the other elements hydrogen, oxygen and nitrogen.
Better Biomass is the international certification system for solid, liquid and gaseous biomass. The certificates are used to demonstrate the sustainability of the biomass used for energy, fuels and bio-based products.
